Starring: The Numbered Society. Chapter Two

Before we start.
THANK YOU FOR THE COMMENTS I'M LIKE ASDFGHJKL SO I'M REWARDING ALL OF YOU WITH ANOTHER CHAPTER. THANK YOU.

Chapter Two

“Who in the crazy world are you and what just happened?” Melanie asked, throwing her arms up into the air.
The man, otherwise known as Jonathan, rolled his eyes. He could tell this one would be difficult. “My name is Jonathan, and obviously, I just saved you from being mugged and possibly murdered. This is the thanks I get?”
“Well, I’m sorry, Jon. Thanks. How did you know what was going to happen?”
Jonathan smiled to himself.
If only she knew.

Jonathan had sensed it.

He had woken up with a headache in the morning, and before him, the scenery had changed. He was behind a white van, where two men in black were jumping in. Something flashed and caught his eye. The sun was reflecting on the metal, and for human eyes it would’ve been so blinding that they would’ve looked away. Jon didn’t. After all, he wasn’t human. He saw a girl being dragged out, unconscious with the metal knife close to her neck.
Then, throughout the whole day, his head had been full with these visions, of the same thing. A white van, two men, a knife, and the girl. He knew he’d had to do something, otherwise the vision type thing would not have happened.

Curious of who Jon is? Here’s your answer.

  Jon is an alien.

There, it’s out there. He is an alien who came from the star Aldebaran, as humans call it, about 65 light years away. Three hundred years ago, the living beings on that star have been so curious of earth just like we are of other planets, and since they actually had the technology and skill to build an UFO, may he say harshly, unlike humans, came to earth. Needless to say, you’d probably agree with Jon on that one. Three hundred years ago, what were we doing? Inventing phones? Not even. Electric telegraphs. Yes, that’s what we’re doing. Pretty sucky compared to an UFO, right?

Anyway. I really need to work on not getting sidetracked while telling stories. Jon’s been stuck here for three hundred years. Never growing old, staying his hot, young self, because of the huge time differences between Earth and Aldebaran. Every day on Earth is a minute on Aldebaran. So technically…. Jon’s only lived on earth for 109500 minutes. He did the math and everything.

Jon can hear, see, and move eight times more than the average human. He can teleport, move things indirectly (or as little kids would say ‘The Force’), was able to stop time and just walk around like nothing happened, invisibility, and he could heal really fast. On his planet he was average. Normal. That changed a whole lot here.

But of course, Melanie doesn’t know that. She just sat on Jon’s comfy couch, positioning herself in a I’m-currently-very-serious way.

“So? Are you going to answer or what? Am I going to have to repeat myself? Hello? Are you deaf or something?” Melanie asked, clearly oblivious to the fact that Jon can hear eight times well than she can.

“Yes, Melanie. I'm going to answer. You don’t have to repeat yourself. Hi. No, I'm not deaf.”

“Gee thanks, but it looks like you still haven’t answered my question,” Melanie retorted, sass starting to show in her voice.

“I didn't know what was going to happen,” Jon lied. “I saw you, and I saw two men. I saw a knife. So I decided to help out.”

“Okay…” Melanie said. She opened her mouth and was about to say something else, but at the same time, her phone rang.

“Hello? Sam? What’s happening?” She answered to the panicking voice, she too, becoming a mixture of scared and nervous.

“Mel, I don’t know what’s happening,” came the whisper of Sam. If you were the one answering the phone, that whisper would’ve sent shivers down your spine. He sounded like he was on the rim of dying. “I’ve been taken here, to some weird agency, I think. There are people wearing purple and black clothes, here. They might be one of those weird clubs. The two men dressed in black got hit, just like me, because they failed to bring you back.”

“An agency? You were hit? Why did they want to bring me back?” Melanie asked. People dressed in purple and black sounded so familiar to her. She closed her eyes and forced herself to think about it, if there was any way to save Sam. And Grace. Nothing. Nothing… except for a sensation of a great impact hitting her and a huge feeling of pain. She quickly opened her eyes up again, and shook all of those weird, strange memories away. Then, it was like as if nothing happened, she forgot it all, as she started paying attention to what Sam was saying again.

“Listen, Melanie. Both me and Grace are going to die. It’s been decided by the Officials, I think. I just called to make sure you were safe, don’t worry about us, and I have no idea why they wanted you. Just stay safe, and - “

“Hey! No phones, give ‘er ta me, or ya gonna get beat again,” A growl sounded on the other line. A series of beeps sounded. Sam had hung up.

Melanie just sat there, her hand slowly losing grip on her phone. Her phone slipped out of her hand onto the ground, but she didn’t care. She couldn’t move. She couldn’t process what had just happened. In the phone, the growl had said ‘beat again.’ That meant Sam had been beaten up already. He was about to die. But yet, all she could do, was just sit here and wait for the news of their death.

Nothing had ever happened like this before. She was always guarded by the best security all of her life. The one time they weren't, this had to happen.

She breathed a loud, shaky sigh. Jon, even though he was sitting two meters away from her, had heard the entire conversation. He was not as shocked. After living for three hundred years, he had heard about as many murders and kills as the meals you’ve eaten to this day. He rose up and plopped himself on another chair, one that was faced toward a perfect view of the sky. At night, if he sat there he could see his home. His planet.

Melanie, stood up furiously and glared at him. “Excuse me, what do you think you’re doing?”

Jon rolled his eyes, sighed and turned around. “I am relaxing. Is there a problem?”

Melanie glared even harder, if that was possible. “Is there a problem? UM YEAH! My agent and make-up artist, who I have been with for ten years, are about to be killed. Should you be relaxing? Hell NO. You, are supposed to be asking me why I'm so shocked, and after you hear why, offer to drive there to save them.”

“Why should I? I don’t even know you. I just happened to be walking by, and saved you. That shouldn't mean I'm obliged to help your other friends also,” came the cold reply. You see, Jon wanted nothing to do with humans. He thought that life should go the way it was meant to be, without any interruption from a supernatural being. If humans knew that Jon had powers, he was afraid that they’d start to rely on him. He didn't want that. He didn't want to ruin the life they had planned ahead of them.

“Why should you?” At this point, Melanie was starting to believe that Jon must be the most cold hearted person alive. “The same reason why you wanted to save me. I can’t live without them. Those two have been with me for ten years in my acting career,  they’re two of my bestest friends. Her shouting had decreased in to a whisper. A sad, lonely whisper. “I don’t know what I’d do without them,” she said, choking on the words. A stray tear fell out, as Melanie quickly brushed it away. She didn't want Jon to think that she was vulnerable.

Jon decided not to comment about how bestest wasn't a word. Instead, to Melanie's surprise, Jon stood up and walked over. “Grab your coat. I got the car keys.” He said, wiping another tear from Melanie’s eyes.

Melanie quickly gathered her things, and opened the door. A surprise was there. She screamed. Jon rushed over, just barely controlling the urge to use his super speed.

Grace was standing at the doorway, covered in blood, looking exhausted.
